A faultless offer configurator for standard tests

The institute offers tests for mechanical, thermal, chemical, and other properties according to DIN or ISO standards. To make it easier for purchasers, project managers, quality planners, or salespeople to research the appropriate test scope, the KIMW was looking for an offer configurator or a software solution that compiles the positions that are suitable for the test standard.

The goal was to simplify planning for customers and provide them with more confidence in their selection. For example, the offer configurator should enable even purchasers with limited expertise to obtain an error-free offer in just a few clicks. Due to the large number of testable standards offered to the customer in the configurator, data preparation presented the biggest challenge. After coordinating and preparing in Excel logic, the data and the logic were ultimately stored in a simple maintainable format.

Tested at the fair

In a joint workshop, a first questionnaire and the logic to achieve the desired results were defined. As a result, each user should receive a simple overview of what needs to be checked, how many components are needed, the maximum duration of the inspection, and the total cost. There were numerous factors to consider that were interconnected. In the Digital Product Selector, this was made possible by an individually programmed calculation of the maximum processing time for all inspection positions and the summation of the individual inspection costs. With the appropriate styling, the result could be presented clearly to the customer.

Subsequently, KIMW, with support from FoxBase, developed the quotation configurator, which was first tested at the Fakuma trade fair. After the quotation configurator was successfully tested in the market, it was published in the institute's webshop. Customers and prospects are guided to the service that suits their requirements through an interactive questionnaire and can complete the purchase directly, as the software is integrated with the shopping cart.

The new DIN SPEC 91446

The Digital Product Selector helps with the simple and quick selection of standard tests in the 'Automotive Testing' area. Not only do customers and prospects benefit from the software, but also the sales staff of the institute itself, as they now save time in creating offers. At the same time, the offer configurator promotes the new DIN SPEC 91446, which was created in collaboration with the Kunststoff-Institut Lüdenscheid. KIMW offers service and advice for implementation through the configurator, as well as all required tests including labeling.

The DIN SPEC 91446 provides comprehensive specifications for data quantity and quality for material classification. It establishes a system for classifying plastic recyclates according to the depth of their description. As a result, it helps to process plastic waste into recyclates that can be used again in equal or higher value products – www.dql.expert.
